About us

The Whaler started in Umkomaas, Aliwal Shoal in 1991. A great opportunity gave them an option to set up in the campsite at Ponta do Oura, Southern Mozambique in 1992. Originally based near the Beach Bar for almost 4 years before moving location to its current site, in 1995, the Whaler has experienced the beauty of the people and the ocean.

Unfortunatley It has also experienced devastation and destruction when, in July 2010, an out of control fire tore through the dive camp flattening everything in its destructive path. Greatfully, the kindness of the people in this world have allowed for The Whaler to get back on its feet to bring you exciting diving in the most beautiful and warm Indian ocean, and a comfortable stay.

There are qualified skippers and dive masters to cater for your diving requirements and a rustic camp with showers and kitchen facilities.
